First, a bit of backstory: I built my current machine three years ago as a video editing rig. My main concern at that time was storage, thus the two 5TB HDDs. However, I’ve made a career change and find myself using this machine for gaming 85% of the time (the other 15% being work-from-home browser and Office apps).

My main concern is whether I should upgrade my current build or start from scratch.

At an absolute minimum, I will upgrade to an ultrawide monitor with 4K or near-4K resolution and 60FPS. My uneducated understanding is that in doing so, I’ll also need to upgrade my graphics card. There’s also a possibility I plug in another 24” monitor in addition to the ultrawide.

While I would never consider myself a try-hard gamer, I do try to enjoy the experience. Again, I’m currently gaming on a 24 inch and suffer from frequent tearing while playing Deep Rock Galactic on high settings, so the bar is low. Although I’m typically able to play games on High to Ultra since I previously turned a blind eye to tearing and FPS. But now I want to change that.

Bonus points: I need Bluetooth for connecting wireless Xbox controllers. I don't care for RGB. If it's there, fine, but I will prefer to not have it. If I can, white components are preferred over black, but that's by no means a top priority. I'll keep with Windows 10 and my current mouse/keyboard.

Finally, whether I choose to upgrade a few components or whether I build new, what do I do with the old parts? I'd be nice to get some money for them, but I haven't the slightest idea of where to do that reliably.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!

Change to AMD 5900x or close to it. For gaming and/or video editing cause you can do both very well intel is not king of either anymore or right now anyway or wait for new intel if you sticking with them.

The second build is an upgrade by a bit. I'd move over the CPU cooler and storage drives and sell the rest of the old build and go with the new build.

You can sell on ebay or hardwareswap sub reddit. Fees either way so up to you.

Had to look up Deep Rock Galactic 😛

I would focus on the GPU and power supply upgrades first and see if you are happy with that, there is a good chance that will get you what you want.

By the time you get a gpu for a decent price you might decide it would go better with a newer CPU that supports DDR5 memory 🙂

Went for new headphones and a 3070Ti instead, because even with scalper prices, it would be much cheaper.
