Really good question, may find a few different good answers too. Just assume the most likely scenario to eventually come is higher MSRPs (lovely bumps on top of the newest packages introductory price) due to the ridiculous demand and feeling of scarcity at the moment.

If I could get one guess it would be lessons of scarcity and scalping being played out for the next 3-4 years if the weather in the global market (pandemic isn't giving; import demand is still extraordinary imbalanced to exports in the US, despite the entirety of the past 18 months being a demand surge in those goods)

In other words, watch the money. Money leaving the market, even with less enthusiasm for paying stupid marked up prices isn't really doing the ebb and flow needed to push prices lower. Once you see signaling of new rounds of production for the less profitable fab goods (ie stuff less in iPhone and Nvidia cards, and more from industries crippled by the shortage like auto manufacturers) that should be more than anything the best place to get an early picture of what's to come

one thing you need to consider is that although its a small chance, gpu prices might never return to our standards, and these overpriced cards might become "normal"

They're not going to be able to simultaneously release new incremental releases at prices double or triple the normal expected MSRP may be. There is an incentive to be able to deliver more than one tier of any kind of product line like NVIDIA/AMD pretty much solely compete for globally. That pressure exists on the aftermarket products as well you can assume

Surely the scary time no known retail stores had wrapped sealed stuff will be what lifts the premium on what they're going to sell going forward, I will be wrong and admittedly not surprised if it turns to be the opposite and subvendors mark up more than ever and founder edition cards in toilet paper bundles resales become the new 2000$ shiny thing

In short term: Not likely.

In long term (until 2023): Still not likely.

It won't be for a long time. They found out how to get the LHR cards to get 70% of the performance mining as a regular card. Money is money and they will continue to buy cards faster than ever.

If I had to guess I'd say 2023 for it to calm down and even then the GPU prices will be higher because everyone is willing to pay for them
