Help with dual booting Ubuntu

well, this happens when Grub is unable to find your ubuntu installation, A re-installation of ubuntu should fix it

That's the GRUB recovery console. If you're booting from a usb drive, your drive wasn't setup properly. If you've already installed Ubuntu and booting from your hard drive, your boot files got corrupt. If it's the 2nd situation, I'd suggest doing a clean install of both Windows and Ubuntu. This issue can be fixed but takes considerable knowhow and is dependent on the exact configuration and issue.

 

EDIT: Unless necessary for some reason, I suggest running Ubuntu in a VM. Oracle VirtualBox is free. Can always go with VMWare if willing to buy the thing.
