Where are all the High Refresh 4k Monitors??

LoweDownJustin
Go to solution Solved by Stahlmann,

The reason you can't find one of the LG ones is because the 27GN950 is discontinued and the new 27GP950 is out of stock because of high demand

Like @Chris Pratt said forget about HDR unless you're ready to spend several thousand dollars.

REAL HDR will cost you anywhere from $2.5K and up. (For example Asus PG35VQ and Asus PG32UQX)

But there are a few 4K 144Hz pseudo-HDR monitors available right now with more to follow.

Apart from the 2 LG monitors mentioned above there is also the new Samsung Odyssey G7, Gigabyte M28Q, Acer Predator XB3. There are also a few options around 32", but they are getting closer to $1000.

I've recently decided to make the jump to high refresh rate 4k monitors and after a lot of research (watching LTT) I decided to just full send and get an LG Ultragear, the problem is they seem to be discontinued with no indication of a replacement as far as I can see. My second choice was the ROG Strix and that's discontinued too.

My question is this: What high refresh 4k monitors (preferably HDR10) are out at the moment? Because I can't find any.

There's a few, but they're all stupidly expensive. This is a very nascent category, with the first models only debuting this year in fact.

Also, FWIW, HDR10 is meaningless. You need to look for DisplayHDR certification of 400 or higher. Even then, 400 is really only good enough for a VA panel, since it's aided by the higher native contrast. It's not really HDR until you've got around a 1000nits, and for an IPS panel, you need FALD (full array local dimming). Otherwise, it's all marketing garbage.

Acer, Gigabyte (Aorus), and Asus make 43" 4k 144hz (Really they are 120hz with overclocking, my acer does skip frames at 144hz) monitors with HDR10 but they are 43" 16:9 so quite large (I use mine as a replacement for 3 monitors).

Gigabyte also makes a 28" 4k 144hz display but I don't think it's HDR10 (and it only has 300 nit peak brightness)

43" Displays are:
Aorus FV43U
Acer Predator CG437K
Asus ROG XG438Q

28" Gigabyte is M28U-SA

why no dark mode?

Burn-in and size aside, are there other compelling reasons to choose one of these over say an LG CX that costs almost literally half?

Not really. These displays only exist for that price because there is no competition. If you want a HDR display and don't want a 48" or 50" TV in front of you there is no other choice. If you want HDR and a big TV is not a problem then rather get a C1 OLED or a QN90A QLED TV. They will deliver better picture in pretty much any case than even these extremely expensive monitors fol half the price. And modern TV's are as good in terms of input lag as high end gaming monitors.

If you want an example of why OLED can be extremely enticing and how it stacks up agains other high-end gaming monitors, watch this video:

it's just too big or not bright enough for some ppl, and not the best for text, but if that isn't a problem then oled is the way to go.

(it's the exact right brightness for me, i have a text mon and i dont care about burn-in risk, but i really just don't have the desk space for anything bigger than 32inch)

Without saccing image quality the gn/gp950 imho is the baseline for what a 4k/120 monitor should look like, and having said that, i still recommend just buying a 27GL83A 1440p, sit a bit closer, and save a ton of money.

OLED or the pg35vq (it's not 4k but it sure does look nice) provide better image quality for a decent cost over the nano panels.

That was a nice watch. I'm absolutely loving my C9 for everything.

I can totally understand the size argument. Even my old 43" TV I find too large to comfortably use as a monitor.

Just a quick heads-up. There is a new king of 4K 144Hz monitors and it's even the cheapest one of the bunch:

Do you have details on some of these? I'm after a 32" 4K 120Hz+ display as well to upgrade my existing QHD (So I can enable 4K HDR on my PS5; and I also switch to my PC for high refresh rate gaming). But the only 32" i've found is the Asus PG32UQX which is triple that price.

If you want 32" and real HDR, then the PG32UQX is the only monitor currently on the market. But i wouldn't recommend it. Apart from the ridiculous price it has quite slow response times and no HMDI 2.1, so it's limited to 60Hz on consoles.

There are a few 32" 4K monitors coming though. I know that Asus and Acer have some in the works. They're expected to cost around $1000. The only one in that class that is currently available is the GIGABYTE AORUS FI32U. But this one (and very likely the ones coming from Asus, etc.) are pseudo-HDR. Meaning they have some sort of HDR certification but realistically look not much better or even worse than SDR) Other than that the FI32U looks like a solid choice as a PC/Console hybrid display: Gigabyte AORUS FI32U Review - RTINGS.com

you can wait for the 32inch version without the fald, i'm guessing it'll be a wider gamut than the 28inch panel which would likely put it around 1200usd,

for 4k true HDR it's just the uqx, ucg and oled

Personally i can't recommend the 32inch models over the 28inch panel at 600usd.
