It's been a long time since Linus regularly played Halo, but with the Infinite launch coming up we just had to get access to the technical preview and see if 343 Industries is using the extra time wisely.

As a big Halo 1 and 2 fan myself, it actually feels really good to play. And the multiplayer will be free!

I wasn't interested in Infinite at all until your comment got me intrigued. Played in the background while working on other stuff, and I'm looking forward to this now.

Am I taking crazy pills? This game looks terrible ... and to be struggling with frames with that hardware? That's embarrassing.

 

This is the same game that got delayed because it was technically graphically panned? Checked, yes it was. 

 

Well watching it I thought maybe it's just minecraft ugly but instead minecraft deep. Nope, not even that. Looks exactly the same as the previous Halos with borderline homebrew mods added on. 

 

Snore. Utter snore. 

 

For refence, I had fun in Halo CE, that was pretty good for it's time. Don't play the uprez version though, jesus. Halo 2 was alright, mainly played that through coop with a friend. Halo 3 disappointing the hell out of me initially (going from PC Crysis graphics to Xbox 360 Halo 3 was rough! The aliasing was awful AWFUL), but won me over with the huge vehicle fights and expansive map arenas (which hasn't been repeated since ...). Played the hell out of Halo Reach multiplayer. Stopped ever since. Halo Reach looks more fun than whatever Linus was playing here.

 

Shame, would have been nice to have more variety injected into the gaming scene. But 343 doesn't seem interested in innovation and advancement.

I recently found my oldest Xbox ONE from 2003 and i still have Halo 1 and Halo 2 saves.. Now to buy old games and play the damn legends!

 

Will be fun to watch this video and see how it goes

Sadly used in newer engines, which means added or rather decreased general performance over features and better editing?

Were you can add a lot of minor details that will take 10x the performance, aka stuff that could be seen the same as raytracing (sorta).

From bigger textures and expensive textures on walls that wouldn't look much different in lower resolution.

 

Hidden details like in the ground, if its in 3D/High tessellation and some of the foliage you don't see that is in the grass as shown in the video when he dies.

Also if the game is currently rendering more than it should? And if this is only for the MP as it's going to be free, more work is going for the SP?

 

Agree though, that it's running a bit horrible for what is shown. And how we see again how "AAA" games will reach higher demands for lower visual spectacle.

Then again it hasn't been so for a while in certain areas, were indie games are or have pushed the graphics a lot more than bigger titles and run better.

I personally was not impressed. Feels like a mod that came out 5 years too late. Clunky, same limited feel in the gameplay. Just more of the same.

 

Halo has gone the way of COD. Bump the textures and call it a new game.
