Just want critiques, have the budget down to a good point. RTX 3070 and i5-11400f. 14% bottleneck

Budget (including currency): $1250 Rtx 3070 and i5-11400f build

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft with rtx/shaders (yes I know they're different things), and Fortnite.

Other details Part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KR3b3Z, no keyboard/mouse needed.

I'm upgrading from a laptop with the MX150 gpu (mobile version of gt 1030), i5-8450u, and 8gb ram (not sure what speed, but ddr4). Laptop sucks, can't run fortnite at 720p, medium settings, 50% 3d res at 30fps.

Monitor: 1080p 144hz refresh rate (a bit low refresh rate, I'm planning to do minecraft with heavy shaders mostly, and some Fortnite. Minecraft doesn't need high refresh rate.

Id go with a better CPU and PSU.

I think a 750w  PSU would be better for your GPU on that level, same goes for the CPU.

If you were loading up the GPU with a target of 60fps and best settings no matter what, it would hold up better than a HighFPS Multiplayer Competative (trying to hold minfps as high as possible) 144Hz will be more of a CPU load and core count sucking scenario as drawcalls will need updating much faster per second.

You could also grab a better binned faster kit of RAM in a CPU bounded scenario vs any GPU bound gaming scenario, or.. just ovetclock or tune whatever you get for a small bump to min/avg fps values when games push the subsystem at lower details highfps sections.

Some people buy 144hz and want 140fps minimum, some buy 144hz and setup according to 100-144fps, it really depends on the kind of tweaker you are.

There are so many people here who will throw you a balanced build based off your specific needs.

Best of luck nailing down your custom beast.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

750 Watts? This isn't a 3080... its a 3070..? NVIDIA recommends a 650 watt.

Get a better PSU, a 2060 barely runs on a 500 Watt power supply...

wattage ≠ quality

Fwiw my 270w power limit 3070 runs fine on 500w bequiet pure power 10, doesnt mean it will run well on another 500w psu, or a 700w psu (in fact it doesnt run well on a bequiet "straight power" 11, 700w)

Granted when i used the 500w psu i didnt OC at all, but my pc still never uses more than 500w even with OC'd CPU, RAM and GPU (I know because  i now have a rm650i and that tells you the power draw exactly )

Just saying, its more tricky than that and even some expensive psus dont handle the transient power spikes of a 3070 well.

PS: i would go with a 650w RMX, some EVGA and Seasonic PSUs have issues with 3000 cards for example .
