3d printers, seeking information/recommendation

I need to get a 3d printer, but I have nearly as little information on the subject as a caveman... I've had enough "if only I had a 3d printer" moments though and it's time to fix that.

Currently looking at the Monoprice Voxel or the Bibo 2 (Need shrouded unit, children are savages)
I'm a bit eccentric, so filament versatility is a plus.
If you can link me to good resources of information for a beginning idiot to get started well, I'd appreciate it.

Otherwise any other good units in the $300-600 range that I should look at?

Trying to remember which 3D printer sites I like a lot.. stuff made here is neat but they don’t actually talk about printers much. There is a guy who does something called the fan showdown. That bit is about computer fans but my memory is the site itself is actually about 3d printing. Also there this dude in Portugal who does a lot of 3d printing. He likes to build 3d printed rockets and hates tomatoes. He actually gives away the odd 3d printer iirc.
