Image upload error "cache resources exhausted `/tmp/imagickTZr5jp' @ error/cache.c/OpenPixelCache/4095"

Browser, version and OS:

Windows 10 21H1, Chrome 91.0.4472.124

Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened?

Finished making my GIF and attempted to upload it

What happened?

I got an error that boiled down to "Sorry, we couldn't upload that"

What did you expect to happen?

The GIF to upload and then have the ability to put it in a post/SU

Screenshots of the issue, if applicable:

Any other relevant details:

I'm currently connected to very slow WiFi (5 down, 1 up) but all other uploads are working for me

How big was the pic?  You can make a really small pic into a really large file with enough Rez and layers and things.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

9.759MB. Under the 20MB limit.

Huh.  Well that idea doesn’t work, unless the max file size is variable by available bandwidth.  A 10mb file took forever and a day to transfer on dialup. Could be something somewhere goes “nope that’s going to take too long to transfer” and blocks it.

that error looks old fashioned.  More info in an error than one often gets nowadays.  Might be some weird old thing that only even gets triggered when bandwidth is low.

That error means that while processing the image, it exhausted the available resources. That generally means you have a heavily compressed gif, because it has to decompress it to process it. The limit is intentional and necessary, so it won't be removed.

One thing you can try is using a lower resolution version, or with a smaller colour palette. Just running it through a gif optimizer will not help though.
