Should I use a Minecraft Hosting Service?

Jtalk4456

I've just really gotten into figuring out how to do MC modding on Java edition within the last year or so. Used to use MultiMC and before that the Technic Platform. But now that I've figured out how to do this, I've got my wife playing with me and we're having a blast. I'm going to see if one of my local friends can join too as we all get along together really well. Problem is I'm unfamiliar with the hosting process. Wifey and I just sit beside each other and use open to LAN. we both have solid computers, but not sure if it's enough for hosting like this or how to do hosting. If I host on my PC I've got a ryzen 5 3600 with 16gb ddr4 3200 ram. I would assume that's enough for having 3 people play a game, but I've never done hosting so not sure. I have about 30-40 mods, but no shaders or anything super big and heavy. If I can convince my friend to join in, should I just host on my pc? If so what do I need to do, and if not, what are the options for paid hosting. I'm East coast US if that makes a difference for companies. I want to get something reliable of course, but I'm not keen to spend a bunch of money at this. So what is the typical range of options? This isn't a 24/7 kind of thing. I just want to jump in a few hours a day and play.

Insanity is not the absence of sanity, but the willingness to ignore it for a purpose. Chaos is the result of this choice. I relish in both.

Ive hosted a modded server with roughly as many mods as that with a R5 2500U and 12 GB of RAM quite smoothly while running the game on it. My 4600H barely breaks a sweat with 24 GB of RAM. Your R5 3600 will have no issues hosting it. Just make sure to dedicate 4-6 GB of RAM to that server

Primary Laptop (Gearsy MK4): Ryzen 9 5900HX, Radeon RX 6800M, Radeon Vega 8 Mobile, 24 GB DDR4 2400 Mhz, 512 GB SSD+1TB SSD, 15.6 in 300 Hz IPS display

2021 Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition

Secondary Laptop (Uni MK2): Ryzen 7 5800HS, Nvidia GTX 1650, Radeon Vega 8 Mobile, 16 GB DDR4 3200 Mhz, 512 GB SSD

2021 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

Meme Machine (Uni MK1): Shintel Core i5 7200U, Nvidia GT 940MX, 24 GB DDR4 2133 Mhz, 256 GB SSD+500GB HDD, 15.6 in TN Display

2016 Acer Aspire E5 575

Retired Laptop (Gearsy MK2): Ryzen 5 2500U, Radeon Vega 8 Mobile, 12 GB 2400 Mhz DDR4, 256 GB NVME SSD, 15.6" 1080p IPS Touchscreen

2017 HP Envy X360 15z (Ryzen)

PC (Gearsy): A6 3650, HD 6530D , 8 GB 1600 Mhz Kingston DDR3, Some Random Mobo Lol, EVGA 450W BT PSU, Stock Cooler, 128 GB Kingston SSD, 1 TB WD Blue 7200 RPM

HP P7 1234 (Yes It's Actually Called That)  RIP

Also im happy to answer any Ryzen Mobile questions if anyone is interested!

If your purely off LAN then no, But if you wanna do it over a public network your gonna have to portfoward
