The brand & model would help.

 

The RTX 3080 will consume around 350W by itself and can consume more when overclocked. I wouldn't recommend a 600W PSU for an RTX 3080.

There also could be issues with the psu technology,

A lot of talk here regarding psu compatibility with Ampere cards

its an evga psu and i forgot to mention cpu its a 5 3600 and motherboard is a b550f

That narrows it down to...

EVGA BQ 600W

EVGA 600B 600W

EVGA BA 600W

EVGA BR 600W

 

I wouldn't recommend any of them for an RTX 3080 and there's a good chance it won't work and the system will shut down under load. I would recommend replacing it when you get the GPU.

its the BR varient and if i did end up going with a 3070 instead how do you think that would pair

650W is the recommended minimum for a 3070 paired with a CPU like a 3600. If you had a really high quality PSU, you'd probably still be fine at 600W. You however do not have a high quality PSU. You're going to need to replace it.
