Need help deciding on a work laptop

I am starting my own business doing PC cleaning, Maintenance, and recycling (plus a few other things with computers) and i am looking for advice as to a good laptop to buy to have on hand when out on jobs (and possibly ideas on handy software to have) i have a basic page on facebook (@adpccustoms) and would appreciate ideas and suggestions

Budget?

 

I mean my pc repair laptop is some old manky dell e6230 that got left behind by a customer and I slapped a ssd in it. Costs like 130$ on ebay for a i5 8gb and ssd one. Still use it to this day and well I don't really need more as all it does is simple stuff anyway.

If you know what you're doing, then this should be a question you can answer yourself.  What do you need to do your job?

well i'm not sure about budget yet as i am waiting to find out about qualifying for new enterprise funding wanted ideas as to what minimum needs for a jobsite laptop in this area might be, ideally i dont want anything too bigto carry to jobs

Right, any laptop is fine.  Cheap Chromebook to organize clients and ordering, running Quickbooks for your revenue/expenses, you don't need much at all.

 

You don't need an 8core CPU and a 3080mobile to do things.

 

Are you thinking you need a monster machine to run the programs that are on the PC's your fixing?  Like a performance analysis type thing?

that much was obvious lol i was considering just doing most of what i could on my samsug A20e tbh but thanks for the feedback

well thank you for being so wonderful and helpful and not even slightly passive aggressive with someone who just wanted a little help and advice and healthy discourse on the merits of certain business solutions involving mobile computing

Get something with built in 4G/LTE if you plan on using it out in the field

First, you need to understand what I said and why I said it. When you do that, then you're ready for your business venture. Until then, I would not have confidence in asking you to maintain, consult, suggest, or engage in PC activities with.   You are asking a question that one of your clients would be asking you.  How would you answer them?

 

Passive aggressive?  I was trying to be moderately polite while answering you, because I firmly believe you should have at least brought a budget number with you.  At the very least, a list of use cases for the laptop.  What exactly it would be used for.  Do you have a business plan that outlines what you'd be doing for clients?  So we can suggest a laptop that fulfils those needs?

 

That sentence I quoted uses good word choice but make sure to use punctuation in your discourse with clients.  They will appreciate that more than you realize.
