Gtx 980 started smoking

So i tried turning on my pc like i usually do. My power button doesnt work so i have to on it from the inside using something metal to turn it on. I always use my keys and there was no problems till now. My keys have 2 key connected. While using one of them to on my pc from the motherboard, the other key accidentally hit my gpu. My pc turned on but off straight away. I tried turning it back on but then it started smoking. When i took out my gpu, my pc was working fine and could on. I disected my gpu and smelled a burnt-like smell. I saw that a part of the motherboard was kind of black and it was behind a small black chip(idk the parts). I didnt see any parts melted or anything. Is this a cheap fix or should i just get a new gpu?

No. It sounds like you cooked your VRM. Not great in the current market.

They are all black, you really need to circle it out.

One of the few times the red circle is needed.

 

I think the couple sfc modules are the ones that are busted. At the very least the part above the middle sfc part is discoloured.

You meant this wet-ish fade on the board? what ever you call it..

What everybody here meant was that you should use Paint to draw a red circle around the area that was burnt, as it is not clear in the pic you posted.

He meant a literal red circle for the image to pin point where the smoking part is located

Yes. Thats where the smell was coming from.

That hurts my brain. How can you treat your PC that way?

Please fix your power button, or it will be jus ta matter of time until you roast your mainboard or your next GPU.

That's hard to calculate since we don't know what you did exactly and which components got destroyed.

You could try and find out, was chip burnt to death and replace it, sure.

But there is no guarantee, it will work after you put extra money and time in it.
