how do i exact do it?

Hello, I have two running from my house. It does require some finagling with your internet router and some internet companies don't let you change settings on their Modem/Router. So the first 2 steps are A) making sure you have your own, up to date router with port forwarding capabilities and a computer that's slightly better than a potato.

Sorry I probably edited my post. Refresh plz. Build Specs Below.

System

  • CPU
    Ryzen 9 5900x
  • Motherboard
    ASUS ROG STRIX X570-F
  • RAM
    32 GB (2X8) Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CAS 16
  • GPU
    ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 3070
  • Case
    Corsair 4000D Airflow
  • Storage
Sabrent 1 TB TLC PCI 4.0 NVMe M.2
  • PSU
    NZXT C850 Gold PSU
  • Display(s)
    MSI Optix MAG342CQR 34" UWQHD
  • Cooling
Corsair H100i RGB Pro XT 240mm
  • Operating System
    Windows 11

Prob just allocate 2 cores and 4 or 6gb ram to the server, should be enough

So the steps essentially are

  • Download server file and unzip
  • Launch the Bedrock_serve.exe (this open in command prompt) then close it.
  • Open the server.properties text document. and set your settings. They each have their own description. You can also find info for these on the web
    • The max thread option is how you will control how much of your CPU is used for the server.
  • Test it by launching the server (bedrock_server.exe) then connect to it on your local network
    • To do this google "what is my ip"
    • Open Minecraft and go to servers and add a server at the bottom
    • use the IP from the google search and the port is whatever IPV4 port you set in the server.properties.
    • and see if you can connect
    • If it work move on to the next step
  • Make sure your router is up to date and set to auto update as you will want as much security as you can have to protect your local network. A firewall is preferred but not necessary.
  • To make the server available out side of you network, you will need to forward the IPV4 port on your router.
    • This varies depending on your router model, but you should be able to enable port forwarding on your router for the port you set and then have others connect to it from their homes.

Personally I’d allocate 16GB RAM because of chunk loading and stuff, and if there is SOMEONE with a lot of TNT, well it might be able to handle it a bit better

open port 19132 on your router specifically

It depends on what number you enter in the server.properties. If you change the number from 19132, then you need to foward the port that matches.

  • 2 weeks later...

Apologies for necroing a kinda old thread.

Considering you posted this in Console Gaming, the people connecting to the server on a console will also need to use an application such as Phantom (https://github.com/jhead/phantom) on a PC or a mobile app such as "MC Server Connector" to connect to your server. This bypasses the restriction on the console versions of the game to just the "featured" servers and allows connections to other servers via the "LAN Games" area in the "Friends" tab in the game.

Phantom works well enough from personal experience.
