is the NZXT KRAKEN Z73 w over kill cooling for this CPU? or should I just use the stock cooler ?

Are you looking to overclock the chip?

If just using stock, and your case has adequate cooling, the stock cooler should be fine.

Even if you're overclocking, though, that AIO would still be complete overkill for this CPU. The cooler costs almost as much as the CPU itself.

They can still get pretty warm when using pbo though.. even with a good cooler.

Agreed.

I certainly wouldn't spend that much on a cooler, but some people have a lot of cash and like the visual aesthetics the z series offers over the x series.

I would sooner drop down to a lesser AIO and up the cpu to a 5800/5900x with the savings.

As good as the 5600 is.. I would just go a step or two up from it. Actually because I do like to overclock, I would skip the 5900 unless you need the cores.

Hey it’s all good man. I have my 5600x still. She is an absolute beast for FCLK and memory clocking. Way better than my 5900x in that regard. I almost sold it 3 times but pulled the ad each time. You will love it man, trust me. If you aren’t into running cb all the time and just want use it it’s going to be awesome.

As a matter of fact as I write this post I am considering putting my 5900X on marketplace lol..

Agree 100%

If you already own the 5600x, you don't need such an expensive cooler. I like my PC being quiet and enabling PBO, so I wouldn't use the stock cooler either.

You can get a great mid-high end cooler that is quite a bit cheaper.

I can run full speed with an air cooler on my 5900x, no need for an AIO.
