How do I ship an AM2 CPU?

Go to solution Solved by aisle9,

Don't "stab" them in. The easiest way is to take a small block of light foam and gently place the CPU down into it, then package the whole thing. If you don't have any foam, take a piece of cardboard, cut a square hole exactly the size of the processor into it, then glue another piece of cardboard behind it. Once it dries, please the CPU pins-down into the hole and tape another piece of cardboard on top to immobilize the CPU, then carefully package it before sending. Foam's way easier, but the cardboard works too if necessary.

I want to sell an old CPU I have, a Phenom x4 9650, which is a PGA cpu. I don't want any pins bent in shipping. Can I stab the pins into a block of foam and ship it like that, or should I put the pins through a piece of tape and tape the CPU to something? Just want it to survive the journey, wherever it goes next.

Thanks!

Just put it into some foam gently. They're not super fragile.

I've found that a piece of foam is typically just fine if you don't have a better place to put it.

Get a dish washing sponge or some foam material, or even an old used sock (wash it first) and wrap the cpu in the sock.

Then put the cpu in a cardboard or plastic box, something that won't easily crush.

For example a DVD box ... place the cpu near the center and glue or tape some wood / cardboard spacers around the cpu so that the case won't be crushed.
