GTX 660 Magic Smoke

pepelapepe

I got this GTX 660 for free. I cleaned it but and installed it on my pc. The VRM area had a heatsink on it so I didn't remove it. When I turned the PC on it started up and displayed on monitor, within seconds it started smelling weird so I quickly turned it off.

Opened up the card again but this time I removed the VRM heatsink. Anyone know why this burnt up?

Thanks

when you open the gpu you might have forget to clean the existing thermal paste. So will suggest you to open it again and then  clean the thermal paste and after cleaning apply a new layer of thermal paste. After that put the heatsink and tighten it as much as you can.
