i have a sears crt tv from 1989 and need help discharging

i turned it on today but for no more than an hour and i need to know if i can discharge it using the screwdriver under the anode

Yes you can however you should only attempt this if you're confident you can do it safely. A good flyback transformer can pump out up to ~30mV and you REALLY don't want that pumping through you.

Usually you want to discharge to the internal metal frame around the screen. Do this by attaching a copper wire or alligator clips to a screwdriver and the the frame, and then inserting it under the rubber insulator at the back of the screen (which I think is what you're describing). please wear rubber shoes and gloves. Most CRTs should have an automatic discharge, though I don't know for sure if you model does and would recommend looking it up. If the auto discharge doesn't start working you might want to let a professional repairman look into it, but I have no idea if you can even find one for a CRT anymore.

happy too say just finished my maintenece on my tv and now its almost done gunna be great for my commodore 64
