New Ryzen 3600 Build Won't Power Up. HELP!

ItsJymmi

I've just built a new Ryzen PC and can't get it to power on. The only thing that happens when I plug into the mains is the decorative RGB LEDs come on on the MOBO. When I press the power button, the fans don't spin on the case or the CPU. RGB on the RAM and GPU don't light up and it obviously won't even try to boot. Literally nothing happens apart from the lights on the motherboard come on and cycle through the rainbow.

Here are the specs and the troubleshooting steps I've taken so far.

Specs:

Ryzen 5 3600
16GB (2x8) Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro @3200Mhz
Asrock B550 Pro4 Motherboard (3rd Gen Ryzen 3000 series ready)
Corsair TX750M 750W Semi-Modular PSU
Powercolor Red Devil RX580 8GB GPU (The only part taken from old build)
Corsair 220T Airflow RGB Case.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

(Motherboard's Decorative RGB LEDs come on and stay on. So, MOBO IS getting power.)

24pin Power fully and properly connected.
8 pin CPU power fully and properly connected.
8 pin GPU Power fully and properly connected.
Both RAM Modules are fully seated in DIMMs B2 & A2 as per manual.
Tested both RAM modules individually in slot B2 & A2.
Power switch connectors of case properly connected.
Tried disconnecting power switch connectors and touching pins with screwdriver.
Checked and reseated CPU.
CPU Air cooler properly connected to fan header.
Tried all the above both in and out of the case incase of standoff issue.
Tried all of the above with and without SSD connected.
Tried all of the above with and without GPU.

I'd appreciate any help I can get to get this thing up and running before I lose the rest of my hair. Thanks in advance!

You might have a shot PSU. Or MOBO. That's my guess

Have you tried testing to make sure the PSU Works. Take it out of your system then try the psu with paper clip test to see if it does anything (check if its fan starts spinning)

I would try removing the CMOS battery on the motherboard and reseating it after about a minute and see if that fixes it.

PSU is not shot because the motherboard is lighting up.

Usually the color of the lights means something, if you consult your manual it should give you the meaning.

If I had to bet, I would bet the broken part is the motherboard, make sure to secure both the cpu and 24 pin power, or anything else related to the motherboard. If nothing works, you can probably RMA it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried the test and PSU seems to be fine. Fan spins normally.

Sorry, I forgot to add that to the list of the things I had already tried. Unfortunately it didn't work. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Unfortunately, it's only the decorative RGB lights on the back of the motherboard that are coming on. They cycle through the rainbow of colors. The actual system diagnostic lights don't come on at all.

I've also tried reseating the CPU and triple checked the 24pin power connector.

Ok so the PSU is fine. As for this situation. It sounds like the motherboard is the problem here but we cant be certain. Is your board still under warrenty? maybe you could try take it back and get a different one?

Do you have a PC speaker handy, perhaps from an old system, that you could plug into the mobo and try to get some more information on what's happening during POST?

Ye i was thinking of suggesting that but when he said his motherboard isnt showing any signs of life at all, not even fan spin I assumed the board wouldn't of even made it to the self test phase inorder to beep but idk. It could be possible to try.

Fortunately, The board is brand new and only purchased about a month ago (I've been buying the parts as and when I could afford them) so I may have to look into sending it back for a replacement.

Unfortunately I don't have suitable speaker. Neither of my two older i3 and FX PCs have one. I also don't make it as far as a post. The system just seems dead apart from the decorative LEDs on the back of the board.

Sorry for the delay in responding. It's been a long, tough day and I fell asleep lol.

Thanks for that link, Tech87. I've gone over it a couple of times now and I just about have covered everything.

It must be a faulty board. There's an MSI MAG Tomahawk B550 in my price range available where I buy my parts from so, I'm going to order that tomorrow and send this one back for a refund or account credit. I'll let you all know how it goes with the new board when It arrives and have tested it.

Thank you everyone for your help. I really do appreciate it. Talk to you again soon when the new board arrives. (Hopefully Tuesday) 😉

Hi all,

Sorry for the late update. It took longer to have the new motherboard shipped than I would have thought but, it arrived today.

I'm very happy to say that I now have the new PC up and running!

Thank you very much to you all for helping me diagnose the issue and for all of your advice. I honestly wouldn't have been able to come to the correct conclusion as quickly and easily without you. I am extremely appreciative!

THANK YOU!! 🙏
