Unified Language?

Hey guys, so as I was thinking of random things I thought about what it'd be like if everyone in the world spoke a unified language. Obviously one of the main issues would be deciding what the main language is. I think it should just be the most commonly spoken language there is right now. I'm not really sure what it is but I'm positive it isn't English. Even if it was English is more complicated than other languages which would make some sort of mass conversion really hard. Another issue is getting past the cultural ties the languages have. If we were able to unify everyone under one language do you think that would be beneficial or pointless?

i think spanish is spoken the most...

but i think english would be better because almost everyone who's going to school learns english, i even prefer english over my own language, i evne think in english instead of dutch....

Trying to unify language is pointless, as soon as you unified it, it would start to diverge.

^ aesrock has a good point here, even if communication with each other is connected very well people will still make something new.

So true. although is it a language? not sure. but very true.

Isn't there mathematics equations and such on most of the probes Nasa sent out, I guess Nasa thinks aliens must know what it means too.

Agreed....although there a joke in danish that dutch is a mix of danish, swedish, german and a serious throat disease. ;-) So its not saying much. but hell, danish is probably worse.

 

We should all just learn latin.

Problem is not everyone is able to learn new language. Take an example of me, even if I write normally grammatically in English & can read, I still have difficulties to hear/speak in English cause it's not my native & in our childhood ('80s), we (population of country) used to watch TV's in Russian language (because Soviet Union) & when watching movies now, I understand Russian far better (almost like my native language), then English unfortunately. And watching movies in English I use subtitles, which is pain in ass. I just want to say, it's hard to learn new language if you're not learning it from childhood. So, I don't thing one unique language idea will ever be. English seems international, but still there are countries which do not know it.

Yep, most can't even have one dialect in most languages, so it would end up just the same.
