Edit :

If I was to go with 1080p => 144Hz due to the unavailability of a GPU upgrade  :

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post, so apologies in advance as I don't know the customs around here 😅.

Anyhow I've upgraded my PC to the following specs throughout the course of the last year :

SPECS :
--> Intel i7 - 10700k @ 3.8GHz Turbos to about @ 5.00GHz

--> Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 WINDFORCE 6GB OC

--> 2x 8GB Corsair Vengence RAM

--> Asus ROG STRIX Z490-E Gaming

--> Corsair CXM 850M Power Supply

--> Samsung V-NAND SSD 860 Evo M.2 1TB

I've been considering upgrading from my Hp Pavilion 22xw 1920x1080 @60Hrtz Monitor for quite a while now, but with my old hardware there wasn't any real sence in doing so (I5-7600 & 970OC 4GB).

I'm very happy with my CPU and Motherboard performance but I'm fully aware that the 2060 is a beginner level RTX card.

I debating smoother gameplay of 1080p @ 144Hz between higher resolution 1440p @ 144Hz at possible lower quality presets.

My main dilema occurs due to the relatively insignificant price difference between them. I.E :

1080p 144Hz :

Samsung C24RG5 24" Curved 144Hz Full HD Gaming Monitor 4ms = £184

ASUS TUF VG279Q1R 27" Full HD 144Hz Gaming Monitor 1ms = £230

1440p 144Hz :

Asus TUF VG259Q Full HD 24.5" 144Hz, 1ms = £230

ASUS TUF Gaming VG27WQ1B Curved Gaming Monitor – 165Hz, 1ms, HDR10 = £280

*These are some of possibilites, but should present a rough picture*

*Also, monitor recommendations are welcome*

What are your opinions?

Thanks in advance.

You won't get a full 144hz on most triple A games.   At most you will get over 80 fps at 1440p. If you're willing to sacrifice refresh rate, get the 1440p. But if you prefer refresh rate over quality, then get the 1080p.

when i had the same debate, i went with the 1440p even though i had a 1060 6gb, and tbh it worked well with games like minecraft, csgo, rainbow six etc but heavier games i was getting about 80 fps aswell. I would definitely go 1440p unless you really need 144hz in triple a but imo 1440p is better

Personally I like having more screen real estate from having more resolution. You're gonna get fewer frames from your games at QHD, but it shouldn't drop under 60 for most of them. Look for one with freesync and you should be fine.
That being said, I wouldn't ever recommend anyone buying a more than 1080/60 monitor get anything smaller than 27" unless you really can't fit it.
