Are Celeron and Pentium the same physically ??

Recently, I have been thinking to swap my Celeron CPU with Pentium on another Laptop ? Can I do it ??

There are so many Celerons and Pentiums now, you need to first narrow down which Celeron do you have and which Pentium is using the same socket.

 

Some of them are socketed like desktop CPUs, some are soldered to the motherboard. One is easy to swap, the other much more difficult.

If you have a socketed laptop, maybe.

problem is socketed laptop is rare after core 2 duos era and completely gone after 3rd gen core i.

Celeron and pentium brand is still around till gen 7 or 8 if i'm not mistaken.

One is Intel Celeron 1017U, and the other one is Intel Pentium Dual Core processor P6100

You cannot swap the CPUs. The Celeron 1017U is a BGA1023 chip and those are not socketed.

Good news, You can swap the pentium cpu with i3 or i5.

The celeron are soldered.

Swaping a celeron with a pentium does not make any sense, both are bad cpu.

That is simply not true, as with everything it depends on the workload

 

Intel® Pentium® Gold G6605 Processor (4M Cache, 4.30 GHz) Product Specifications is hyperthreaded and would work fine for office work or a media box in a SFF case with limited airflow

Dual core with hyper threading id pretty much fine for many average users who just watch netflix and browse facebook, maybe even listening to music via spotify while they do so

Throwing a windows update on top of that would likely hurt performance tho

 

Old Pentiums and Celerons may not be up the task for todays workloads but as a brand they have their place

 

Edit:looking at intel ARK its about as good as an i3 from 2017, so really not that bad

old i3 and i5 are dirt cheap, if the laptop supports it, it's gonna be a better upgrade.

Celeron, pentium, i3 etc are just branding, once i3 now a celeron.

in the sense of older models yeah, they are hot garbage- I thought we were making generalizations for Pentiums and Celerons
