Hey guys I’m new to the forum in hopes someone could shed light on this issue I’m having…

so I recently installed a rx 580 (8gb) in my system (the card is used) and I’ve been having issues playing games. The issues I’m having are crashes and small artifacts appear unless I run the card at clock speeds or lower. No issues on the desktop what so ever and the only time this happens is with call of duty warzone and sometimes Tomb raider. I am running the latest drivers for the card and have tried a few other versions.

also I’ve noticed a red light on my motherboard now pops up upon booting my pc then goes away.

specs are

Intel i3 9100f

mag mortar b365m Motherboard

RX 580 msi armor 8gb OC

corsair vengeance 32gb clocked @ 2400mhz

600 watt gold PSU

any ideas as to what it could be would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Because I’m getting rid of the i3 shortly lol

You should also get rid of that memory along with it, 2400Mhz DDR4 in 2021 will not fare well.

Sounds to me like a normal experience with an older-gen used card. Potentially mined on, putting a lot of stress/heat on that card. As long as it's still performing well at those reduced clock speeds though, it shouldn't be an issue.

Slower RAM is less of a liability on Intel than AMD, and his board probably won't support more than 2666mhz IIRC because Intel wants you to pay for their premium chipsets to get fast memory.

OP, have you checked your GPU temps while gaming? Has the card ever been dusted/cleaned? The Armor is one of the worst cooler designs.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Is it possible the BIOS was ever flashed during the card's possible "previous life" in a mining rig?

If not I am inclined to agree that the card is probably on its slow way out.

It’s possible but I have zero issues on the desktop and when it’s working it works. Not sure that’s why I posted here aha

Agreed, I just assumed that when he upgraded his CPU, the entire platform would be going along with it 🙂

Any ideas what the most stable drivers are?

Not a matter of drivers. I was speculating that perhaps some downclocked, undervolted VBIOS had been flashed.

Hmm I’m not sure. Person I got it from said it was sitting in the box for a year. But people will say anything

Not at all. People commenting on your RAM are not interested in being helpful, apparently.

Not directly but it's easy to try.

You could try the card in another pc or try another Psu.

Try another pcie slot even?

A computer is the sum of its parts and faulty components can cause problems for other components.

Well it’s strange now I’m dealing with more crashing than artifacts. I just bought a new psu and I don’t have another pc to try the card in.

And just to add to the thread unless I set the card to stock speeds and add 20% power limit it will artifact a bit. Any reason for this?

It seems like it just can't handle the load.  I would try it in another system to confirm but I agree that it might be on its way out.
