GTA V benchmarks -

image.thumb.png.451d5068f593b3aaf50f0d5b0d4bc329.png

Budget (including currency): $1500 AUD

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games and light editing

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

These are the parts I am thinking of buying:

Intel Core i5-11400F 2.6 GHz 6-Core Processor

Noctua NH-U12S 55 CFM CPU Cooler

MSI MPG Z490 GAMING PLUS ATX LGA1200 Motherboard

Kingston HyperX Fury RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory

Seagate Barracuda 3 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive

Corsair Carbide 175R RGB ATX Mid Tower Case

MSI 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

I already have a GPU, its the GEFORCE GTX 970 4GD5T OC.

(I have done some research and looked into all these parts and I'm pretty sure they are good for what I want to do, I'm wanting any advice on anything)

why do you want an overclockable motherboard with a non-overclockable SKU? Get a b560 motherboard and save a few bucks. and do you plan on upgrading your 970 in the future?

Do mean CPU? and Im not sure what an overclockable mobo is, and yes i plan to upgrade my GPU. I was looking at B560 boards on pc part picker and one caught my which was the MSI MAG B560 TORPEDO however it is more expensive than the Z490 gaming plus. If prices drop im wating to get a 3060 ti but if you can recommend something better than im all ears. thanks heaps

Yes. The AMD list is a bit faster in gaming but you do lose 2 cores. the Intel list is slightly slower than the AMD list but you gain 2 cores and it's a bit cheaper. Both lists are great options IMO, and they are both much faster and much better value than the original list.

Certain Motherboards (chipsets) don't support overclocking. Yes, that goes for CPU's also.

You won't need an overclockable (Z-Series Mobo) unless you go with a K series CPU.

In which case, opt. for a cheaper B560 equivalent (*If you're sticking with Intel).

On the other hand tho, all AMD CPU's are overclockable, same with all of their chipsets down to B450 on current-gen (*excluding certain models).

Thank you heaps, what does losing 2 cores mean for the performance and any other area it may affect? and if i were to upgrade my 970 what do you recommend?

I checked Userbenchmarks website and compared the i5 11400f and the R 5 5600X and it says the i5 is better by a tiny bit, if you could give a explanation or go in depth with why the 5600x is better that'd be awesome. thank you

Oh boy. Please, please, PLEASE never use User benchmark. It is

I'm not going to go in depth but if you have 10 minutes to spare this is a really good video on the subject. (In reality, the 5600x is around 10 - 15% faster than the 11400F in gaming at 1080p, and in games like Valorant and CSGO, they can be over 40% faster!)

2 cores means that you are losing potential performance in applications they utilize my cores. For exmaple if you are doing something that utilizes up to 8 cores, then an 8 core CPU would perform better. For what you are doing you probably don't need 8.

With a good 650W PSU, (which I recommended) the 3070 would be a good upgrade later on.

Nothing except for rendering/productivity performance. Even in which case the 5600X usually holds its own against Intel's counterparts (all the way up to the 11600K/11700K).

Noted, I'm glad someone was able to tell me this sooner than later, at least now I know haha. I've always sort of gone with intel, but if you think AMD is the better option I'm willing to consider it, and thank you for the recommendation on the 3070 I pray that prices go down because I do not have anywhere near the budget I need to get that. if only covid didn't happen

Alright, I reckon this is enough information to convert me to AMD, I just wanted to make sure I was getting the best in my price range. Thank you heaps!

Ill make sure to add the 5600X to the list haha
