I'm getting ready to move a lot of my stuff over to rack mount. This has me wanting to move my unraid/F@H over to a 4u case from the case it's in now. Currently there is a 1070 and a 2070. 5 8TB Seagate Ironwolf 8tb in ZFS1. I went with Unraid so I can expand pools as needed without having to add another 40tb of drives. It's set up basically as a plex server for the house, and in it's (mostly) free time it also hosts server for friends and family to play on.

Spoiler

I was looking at the RSV-4015L. I like the expandability, it seems like it would work well for what I would need it to. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it in stock. Are there any other cases that are a similar lay out (accepting an ATX PSU would be nice), and expandability for drives?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

most SuperMicro servers use just a standard ATX board. so if you can find a good deal on something like a https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/chassis/4U/846/SC846E16-R1200B you could easily build your machine into it.

it also takes the SQ series PSU's, which stands for super quiet. i personally use one of these in my rack as a JBOD with two SQ PSU's, and it's really not noticable at all.

otherwise maybe something like a Inter-Tech IPC 4U-4424?

This was one of the ones I was leaning towards. Newegg has them in stock too, but the shipping cost is what had me looking at the Rosewills.

There isn't really a big second hand market for this type of stuff up here in Alaska and not many companies will ship larger things up here. Makes choices harder..

I don't really plan on mining with them. I did for a short time, then gave away a CPU and mobo that they were running on. F@H makes more sense for the set up anyways.

There is a little GPU mining up here, but not much. People up here are usually more money than brains. Even when they don't have much 😉

Really, what it means is they have free shipping set and forgot to set exclusions for Alaska and Hawaii. Usually with those people you can talk them into splitting it 50/50 or eBay's buyer protection kicks in.

then you probably paying a higher price to cover the shipping without knowing it. you know as well as i do there are three ways into AK. fly, float or drive a long time. neither are going to make it very cheap. looking at the page it says "open box" so you are knowing its at least out of the box more used than not.

No, I'm going into it expecting to pay some shipping. I'm also fine with it being used. If I need to cut holes later to water cool or what not, it's a $300 (maybe $450 or $500 with shipping) case and not a $1900 case that costs 2300 with shipping.

@RollinLower Thoughts on it?

looks pretty good to me! It might be a little short-depth for eventual watercooling but my current F@H system is in a case with comparable dimensions and i managed to get a 360mm rad in there.

Awesome! I figured for the price if I have to get jank with a rad mount I can.

I'd just rather spend less on a first rack mount case. Even if it doesn't need to be cut up now, it's easier to cut up later.
