Then you should go with the single 16gb. While overclocking beyond XMP is gonna be hard with how varied corsair DRAM chip supplier is, itll be better because of the fact that you gonna have 2 free DIMM slot instead of 1.

So my Motherboard (Msi X570-A Pro) has 4 dimm slots. At the moment only one (DIMM A 2 labeld) is populated, with 16Gb of Corsair vengeance 3000mhz Stick. I want to get dual channel, so i was looking for another 16Gb Stick, they are pretty expensive compared to 2x8gb kits. My question now is, will i get the sampe performance with a 16gb stick in the last slot (DIMM B 2) compared with two 8gb sticks (one in DIMM B 1 and the other one in DIMM B 2). Looking forward to your answers : )

(I don't know if msi has non standart names for their dimm slots, so here is a explanation just in case)

It literally says this, right on the screenshot of yours:

And no, moving RAM sticks wont dodge you from having to use dual channel, you need another stick of RAM to do so.

I was thinking of that as well...

so you have 16gb now and want to upgrade to dual channel? you can just buy 1x8gb stick and put it at B2 and you will get 16gigs of dual channel and 8gigs of single channel. since no game really goes over 10gigs of ram you will be fine with 16gigs on dual channel+ the additional 8gb of single channel

It's preferred to have same size RAM in slots, preferrably in dual-channel.

8+8+16 is a bad configuration. Either sell 16GB and buy 2x 2*8GB or 2*16GB

Id prefere that too, but the cost difference between 2x8 and 1x16 is like 60€

So you could sell the 16GB and buy 4 cheap(er) 8GB sticks.

By the way, a good video about 4+8GB for example is, that even at 4GB+4GB its faster than 4GB+8GB:

The percentage of difference nears 2 digits, and though 12GB RAM is more, 8GB real dual-channel is faster in games at least.
