Hello,

Ive been building my own towers since the Amiga days, so I can usually fix issues I run into. My last build lasted about a year before I started having issues. Constant crashing and lock ups, I installed a new 700w power supply and did a complete wipe and reinstall of windows 10 Pro.

Here's the machine:

Windows 10 Pro

Asustek Tuf Z370-Plus Gaming

Intel i7-9700K

32g Ram

EVGA GTX 1060

Windows disk 500g Samsung SSD

2 TB old hard drive for storage etc

I managed to get rid of all the lock ups and crashes except 1 and its abit weird. If I go to watch any streamed video, ie netflix, youtube, amazon, the computer will hang and need a hard reset. I managed to figure out that if I have an intense game running in the background. ie 3-4 clints of EVE or X4 Foundations the computer will run like a top while watching vids but the moment i close the game by mistake the computer hangs.

Any Ideas, I can get along with it but its a pain sometimes

Hi there,

Did you try to do a FurMark  test or a benchmark to check is your system stable without the additional "client loads". This is awfully suspicious of some video instability.

You wiped the SSD before installing new windows or you installed fresh windows over the old one?

Hello,

Complete wipe of the SSD with new windows install ( seemed to have a few bad driver conflicts ), Furmark tests run fine. Its not a high load problem its the opposite, and the something to do with streaming. Maybe I have an issue with my ethernet on the motherboard.

Did you ever update the BIOS?

And this is just a hunch, but sounds like either cpu or gpu dont get enough power under low loads, you could try turning off any power save settings or maybe even set it to max performance to see if anything changes, also check power consumption obviously, if its within expected values.

FYI fumark is the worst test possible and pretty much meaningless, because its programmed so bad that both AMD and NVIDIA have safeguards in their drivers to automatically throttle performance when this "program" gets detected.
