That is usually a sign of CPU issues. If CPU is detected and working it would give you some identification of what error is.

Yeh, If the system boots just fine with the E5700 then it could be a dead CPU. I checked the MSI website and the Q8300 was compatible since the 1st BIOS revision so I don't think its a compatibility issue.

Have you checked the CPU for bad / dirty contacts or pins. Can't remember if the Core2Quads were LGA or not.

Also, do you have another or have access to another system that can accept the 8300 to test.

I've ran into this before.
The CPU could be fine, the board however "As is" may not support it.

What I mean by that is at least for certain boards they do not support every 775 chip because the BIOS chip itself cannot hold all the info that supports them. They made so many 775 chip models there was simply no way a single BIOS chip could contain all the code for every 775 chip ever made in these boards.

I used to have a DFI Infinity Dark that I had to use two different BIOS chips with, one for the older 775's and another for the newer 775's. The limitation of room on the BIOS chip in this case was the factor that made so I'd have to swap chips for what I was wanting to run. I went through alot to figure it out but once I did, I flashed two separate chips with a different BIOS based on earlier and later chips for this purpose and that took care of things.

Since you said you got the latest BIOS that supports it, just be sure the BIOS chip itself is still good, they too can go bad with age and not flash correctly if at all but doesn't sound like it from here.
