Corsair CS550M vs CX550M vs Seasonic Core GX550

Darth Pyrrhus

Deciding which new PSU to buy, and my choices came down to these three. I was down to choosing between the GX550 and CX550M originally but I stumbled upon the cheaper CS550M and if the CS550M is good enough for my build then it's just what I'm gonna get, since I'm way overboard my budget. Here are my specs:

CPU: Ryzen 3 2200G (later to be upgraded to an Intel Core i5-10400F)

Motherboard: Biostar A320MH (later to be upgraded to a Gigabyte B460M-DS3H)

Memory: Crucial Ballistix RGB DDR4 2x8GB

GPU: RX 5500XT

A CS550M haven't been made in like 5 years or something, so that PSU has been sitting unused for a long time.

A CS550M isn't a bad PSU, but electronics don't like sitting unused for extended periods.

It will probably be fine, and if it doesn't work, just exchange it or get a refund.

Core GX 550 don't exist. You mean Focus GX-550 or Core GC/GM-500?

Weird, my Google search didn't find that.

From that three, get the Core GX. Don't buy a mediocore PSU like CS550M that's sitting on a shelf for 5 years.

there is an ongoing scam of old corsair PSUs being put in shelves for some reason. Thats one of the ancient ones, so avoid that one.

fyi, you could possibly do a upgrade to a r5 3600 instead in the same board. Depending on pricing.

untill OTP is properly confirmed, id avoid it for now. At least if buying new, its otherwise a neat PSU.

non-modular CX550 an option?

because Core 550, CX550 and CX550M are all allright PSUs.

I assume that you used it with the iGPU before and added the gpu later.
How much mhz is the ram? Just curious.
I think it would be a good upgrade, even though a smaller upgrade than upgrading to a Ryzen 5 3600.
From your mentioned PSUs I would NOT get the CS550M. CX550M is okay, but not a great unit. Your best bet is the Seasonic GX-550, if you want to save money you can get the GM-500 instead. Even cheaper would be the GC-500, but I don't recommend it as it's not modular.
Actually even for the upgrade 550W is a bit much, but there are no good quality lower wattage PSUs out there. From top of my head just the Bitfenix Whisper 450W is a good one.

Ryzen 5 3600 is way more expensive in my region sadly
