Card reader overheating and solution

I'm an IT manager and our photo lead came to me saying that her new XQD card reader was overheating while she was pulling data off it. She was concerned that it was going to damage the high-priced cards and asked if there was anything I could do to help out. This is what I came up with, a Hyper 212 fully mounted to the card reader. Zero heat issues now and the cards come out icy cold after a day's work.

Card Reader? SD and MicroSD Cards? Those are the only Memory Cards still in Widespread use.

Good article I found about it. Was news to me when I heard about the overheating. Pretty interesting that it uses PCIe lanes.

I looked up XQD on Wikipedia and it is getting slowly replaced by CFexpress:

I had to drop a large heatsink onto a m.2 drive I was imaging.  It was getting hella toasty  (due to sustained writes)

 

just balanced a large aluminum block on it while it ran.  Worked perfectly!
