8gb ram (3.98 usable)

Go to solution Solved by yellowhawk,

Sorry for bumping the thread but i wanted to thank everyone for helping me to solve my issue!

What i did was:
-Blew a bit of air on the ram sockets and the ram sticks (i doubt this did anything, but u never know)
-Swapped again my ram sticks from A1-B1 back to A2-B2, even after the click sound i still shake them a bit while lightly pressing down to make sure they are well installed (this might have been the resolving issue)
-Removed my cpu cooler and reinstalled it but not as tightly screwed, i found a reddit post saying that tightening the cpu cooler too much can cause some short of a ram reading issue.

I wish you all good day o/

Device name    -

Is there a way to make sure every bit of your system is 64-bit or x86-64? Because anything in your UEFI or OS that says 32-bit can cause the system to top out at 3.98 GB. It will recognize the other sticks, but is incapable of reading or writing to them.

Are you sure it's not actually recognizing the full 8GB. The way you worded "3.98GB usable" seems like it was pulled from Task Manager, and with a typical Windows install, and maybe a few other background apps, I would totally expect about 4GB to be in use, and 4GB leftover for other programs.

What did you use to upgrade windows? An official disk, the media creation tool and your own USB drive?

I copy pasted what my system information windows was telling me.

As a person who was working with computers that had 2x8GB of DDR4-3200, but with a H310 mobo and 32-bit windows (so it was limited to 4GB 2666 MHz), Task manager will state that two slots are populated and there is a total of 16GB, then in parentheses 3.98 Usable).

When your system has used 4.02 out of 8 GB it says "3.98 available"

You may have been scammed and sent a 32-bit key. IDK why windows is still saying 64-bit OS because if it was it would clearly be stating 8GB of memory otherwise. Also it just occurred to me that if there was some sort of toggle in the BIOS to force 32-bit mode (a feature nobody would want in modern motherboards) that the windows installer would have never completed, so that hypotheses was out of the question. Also @Tan3l6probably has what you need.

Sorry for late response, here it is.

Capture.PNG

it is also only running at 700mhz, idk. Try just a reinstall of 64 bit windows. idk what to do 😕 also, check if the motherboard is compatible with that speed maybe? it might be at 3.98gb because of little compatiblity with 766mhz ram. try fixing the speed first. then idk
