I just need to shrink down my case and system in general.. maybe micro-itx or what is the name of the size between itx and mini itx

If you wanted an expansion slot you could go M-ATX and get like a Tuf B550M

Hello there,
I've been struggling with deciding whether or not I should upgrade my CPU right now or wait for AMD to move to AM5 and DDR5.
I currently own an I7 3700 (non-k) 16 GB of DDR3 1866 and RX Vega 56 (flashed to 64).
I was thinking of upgrading to AM4 with a ryzen 7 5800x...
Let me hear your thoughts!

Thanks alot

In my country as an example R7 5800x is 2 times more expensive than R5 3600x, in game you will not see much changes between them (+- max 20fps), you have to remember that OC is existing, so you can overclock your 3600x. Then you can pair them with 16GB 2x8 3200MHz RAM and B450 MOBO as a minimum.

I'm here to help you out with some basic tasks, I'm still learning some things, so don't belive I can solve everything 😉

I'm collecting all type of hardware - 90% of my collection is a LGA775 stuff rest is some 2010's Era

Here I can find the 5800X for 439 euros and the 5600x for 359 euros. I had planned a full upgrade with 3600Mhz CL 14 16gb ram and X570 mobo but as I said idk if I should upgrade right now 😛

Not at all I think my CPU is pretty old... I can't even run the battlefield games 4, 1, V without cranking everything to the max and increasing the resolution at which I run it to get cpu usage down from 100%...

Rumor is AM5 will go with big.LITTLE architecture. If so, get a 3rd/5th gen ryzen, they're nearly same if the price gap is immense in your area.

In theory, what would happen with the move to big/little architecture? I get it it's more power efficient but to me it sounds like we'd lose perf....

Something like a 5600X and B550 or an 11600K and B560/Z590 would be a gigantic upgrade. If you have more money a 5800X and B550/X570 would be great.

Oh, and new RAM

I wouldn't recommend @Helly Benchmarking 's tip as the 3600X is a really bad value right now.

If you can find it at msrp and have a budget for it, i don't see a reason to not upgrade the system...

Although those cpu could has more benefits and "value" if you have game or other software that can utilize all of of the cpu core/thread

Personally no. You're unsatisfied with current performance, and if I had to guess DDR5 will have a similar launch to DDR4 where it isn't much better for a year and wayyy overpriced.

The main word "If you have a money", if you are living in country, where you can't buy anything your pc parts list in any budget can be more difficult to do.

Sorry I misread earlier, I thought you said R5 5600x instead of 3600x... 😛 While I agree that the 3600x is cheaper, the gap in performance is quite significant. I currently have the money to upgrade so i'll take latest gen but thanks

In my area, 5600x is same priced as a 3800x
So, getting the latter one isn't wiser?

The 5600X is a faster gaming CPU, but both would be a huge jump from a 3770.

Currently; here in france the 5800x retails at 437 Euros, which is basically 20 euros BELOW MSRP.  The 5600x is at 349. I'd say future proofing with two extra cores is better no?
