10$ is fine , all cheaper dongles i have ever gotten have weird incompatibility issues or have crackling headphone sound.

I generally buy the Samsung usb-c to audio dongles which are around 8-10$ , if you cant find them go for anything from a brand that you have heard about (xiaomi / huawei / lenovo) sell good ones in India.

It's basically a DAC/amp in a cord. $10 is on the cheap side.

There are those that are just pass through. (basically the DAC is on the phone and its outputting to USB-C pins as if they were an audio jack.)

It's not always clear which is which though.

I also believe what @geo3 said is right. It's either a compatibility issue or you require an adaptor with a Digital to Analog Convertor (DAC), which is why the dongle costs $10. I buy the Google dongle from local cell service providers for about $12 CAD.

if i was you, id get the $10 one. IMO, if you use a product alot and it works well, the price is irrelevant.
