hi, month ago i built new pc. since then i had massive problems with it, all leading to the ram. every app was crashing. after fighting with my hardware i realized that removing one stick of ram solved the problem. no more crashes, everything was stable. so without further thinking i send my ram to the RNA which was accepted and i received new ram. i installed it and i thought it works fine know untill the crash appeared again. i realized that my pc is adding huge amount of virtual memory which was preventing from crashes, but i was suffering big fps drops. i decided to set the virtual memory manually to 1gb. and know the most interesting part: every app which goes above 50% of ram usage is crashing. for example: im using 7,9gb of ram and when i even try to open new tab in google chrome it shows "out of memory" (even tough i have another 8gb available left). if i play any game and the ram usage goes above 8gb it crashes. it seems like windows recognizes 16gb of ram correctly (usable 15,8) but only 8gb is working correctly. I tried XMP enabled and disabled, doesnt matter. I dont really know what to do next. I think ram is okay becouse i already tried 2 kits. i dont really know what to do next, please help.

Don't fiddle with the virtual memory, let windows handle that on it's own.

If you remove one stick it behaves, are you sure you are putting the 2nd stick in the right slot?

Leave both in, turn OFF XMP, and test with MemTest64

If you have the crash dump files, upload them here, I can look at them and see what's going on

sticks are in right slots. 2nd and 4th counting from the cpu socket. i did memtest on the previous kit with both xmp enabled and disabled, no errors. gonna do the same with the new kit. i dont have any .dmp files. Event viewer is showing "display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding, but recovered". Due to to this i even bought new gpu 2 weeks ago, but it didnt help (did this before i knew thats a ram problem). reliability monitor shows "hardware issue" which is described as LiveKernelEvent. there is no more info, games are closing without any log, it just goes to the desktop.

I'm seeing that a lot lately, bad driver, maybe roll back to the earliest supported by your GPU?

thats defienietly not a gpu issue. i tried using older on both gpus, it was crashing anyway. both gpus work completly fine in other pc. i found this topic with a guy which had the same issue and the same error about display driver and in his case it was faulty ram stick: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/been-dealing-with-2-failures-display-driver/90b4a545-3cbb-4754-af34-21cd66d06f12?auth=1&page=3 i already replaced my sticks and issue is still there. the only one thing that helped so far is to pull out one stick of ram, but then im having 8gb instead of 16gb which is not really a fix.

g.skill

PERSONAL OPINION: I hate g.skill. It's the "rice boy" of RAM. More than once I've had a set that was surrounded by fancy heat spreaders, and upon removal of said spreaders, found the RAM is of two entirely different models of RAM, despite them being sold as a matched set, new in the box.

All I can really say is either swap RAM with something non-g.skill (again, personal opinion) test your existing set with MemTest86 and see what happens.

Roll back your OS to an earlier time

or

use a LiveUSB of Linux Mint (it's very windows-like) and see if the issues persist (if they don't, it's a software corruption, if they do, you have a hardware failure)

Ok, so the RAM is good, we can rule that out.

Still having the crashing?

few hours ago i went to my friend and tried his hyperx 16gb 3200mhz kit. no difference - i can run assasins creed valhalla, but if i do anything which causes ram usage around 12gb it crashes. not instantly, its random. if i run the gamy without any chrome tabs etc. i can most likely play without crashes.

the strange thing is that i couldnt play any game on my previous ram kit. no matter how new, big or demanding the game was it was crashing really often. on the new kit i wouldnt even know that something isnt okay, i thought that rna fixed it becouse i could play any game for 2 days without crashes. is memory controller in the cpu? i dont really think that different ram kit changed the way it works. could i damage it when i was putting the cpu? i did it twice. on my first attempt  everything seemed fine, but i realized that cpu is a little bit "turned"? not sure how to describe it. i decided to pull it out, qucikly checked if the pins are broken or moved and im pretty sure they werent. then i plugged it in to the socket again.

The memory controller isn't something you can replace by itself.

It's either the mobo is bad, or the CPU is toast

If pulling a single stick of RAM out, solves the issue, then I suspect the mobo is bad.

Assuming everything is under warranty, you could RAM both CPU and mobo.....

or....

buy a single stick of 16GB RAM, and go with that (assuming running with a single stick cures your ills)....

or....

Run a LiveUSB version of Linux Mint, and stress test your system that way. Linux is very intolerant of bad hardware. If it behaves under Linux, then you have a massive software corruption, if the system crashes, then bad hardware

its just so strange that on previous ram kit i could iimmediately see that something is wrong, everything was crashing. since it came back from the rna i can run some heavy ram games and everything goes well for hours. what do you think about trying different ram slots, for example 1 and 3 or 1 and 2? will it make any difference, or shouldnt i even try it? im so tired of pulling components out. the only thing im sure about is that i will never try to build a pc on my own again. i already reinstalled windows couple of times, trying both home and pro edition so i dont really think thats a software corruption.

Couldn't hurt...worst that will happen is it won't boot, but that won't cause any permanent damage
