okay so ive just starting the road to building my own pc, ive got a corsair air 540 on the way and im not sure what to use in terms of motherboard and cpu, most vidoe ive seen of system builds people always seem to use intel. My issue is that i know Intel will be a safe decision but the amd 9590 is cheaper and bosts 8 cores compared to the 4930k, those are the 2 cpus i have my eye on. my question is can i trust the AMD cpu to perform as well as it looks like it should or would i be better off spending a bit more and getting the 4930K??

what are you doing with your pc?

whats your budget?

fyi - the 9590 is an overclocked 8350.

the 4930k is extremely stupid decision unless your doing heavy rendering.

my advice - grab a 4670k or a 8350. both are very reliable cpus and are much cheaper then what you have listed.

you should be saving more money for the gpu. if you budget on this and get a 400+ dollar cpu, your computer experience will be terrible.

Fx 8320 overclocked, probably best value for money (practically equal to an 8350.

If you want something a bit faster and runs a bit cooler, you'll have to spend a good $100-$150 more on a 4670k .

my plan is get some of the latest stuff so that i wont feel a need to upgrade for quite some time, im a massive overkill fan so im not toooo bothered about the price, if the product can gaurantee great performance then the price is not such an issue, i just dont want to get "top end" for it to let me down. GPU plans are definately top end, my sights are set for either 780ti or titan.

Get an intel.

The amd platform is old and not up to par with intel in terms of tech, power efficancy and raw power

cores are not what matters at all. A 4 core i5 will beat up an 8350 with 8 cores for example.

Just get a xeon e3 1230v3 ( I could have gotten the model number a little wrong). It's the same as an i7-4770 (4 cores, 8 threads) but cheaper because it doesn't have the integrated gpu of the i7.

You are better off getting something cheaper and just upgrading in a while. You get far less extra performance for the extra cost. Titan isn't worth it either, get a 780ti

thing is ive got some parts on lend from a family member, eg. power supply, a gtx 680, hard drive and RAM, so i thought id buy some decent parts and just upgrade the parts im borrowing later on, yeah it seems like the difference between a 780ti and titan is not very big other than the cost! the ti is a good shout!

Just get a Intel Xeon E3 1230v3

This ^. It's what I've got configured for my build when I do it (see my sig for my PCPP list).

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

Why do people still need to ask this question.

Because sometimes when you are about to drop $200+ on a single component you want reaffirmation that you have chosen the right one.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

The only problem with asking the question is when anyone says AMD they are shot down by some very intense Intel guys with stats and graphs and benchmarks.

I own an FX-8350 and recommended it to someone on this forum and became the target for Intel abuse.

Nothing to see here - move along.

I was only offering an explanation as to why people ask the question, I don't know why some people answer it the way they do.

I know in Australia it is 50/50 whether the 8350 is cheaper than the equivalent I5 (if available at all).  so I guess that would play a role in why people recommend what they do.

Thanks Grumpy.  In Ireland the difference between a 8350 setup and a 4670 setup can be €100.

If I had the money I would have gone for a 4770 but being skint I went for the 8350 over the 4670 as it still saved a load of cash.

And then the hate began (from others)

yeah but it seems he wants an intel ix-xxxxk, so he wants to overclock it, which the xeon can't do.

There you have it, your purchase was rational, there were factors that had to be accounted for and in the end you've got a good performing system.  you can never win with fanboys, because rational consideration is not permitted if it means your favorite company isn't the best option.

EDIT: and that's why unless you use a 3dfx GPU your computer is usless and second rate....  :P

Because time. Not everyone found out the difference at the same time as you. Someboy might find out about computer building tomorrow from a Linus vid, and they won't know the difference. Doesn't make them trolls. They may not know the huge debate a cpu war causes.

I don't get why this site is so quick to call a noob a troll.
