GPU has more landing pads for a power connector. Could i saughter one on?

My 980ti is currently watercooled and i want to overclock it further.. Would this help?

it depends. if there are no traces going anywhere from the connector, then soldering another one will do nothing. it could also damage the card. if the power delivery was not designed for 3 inputs and you plug one in, it could cause issues. its not worth it. Just leave it alone.

 

there are limits to overclocking. you can't go on forever. If you can't overclock more. then stop. unless you want to do XOC...

I assume you already modded the bios? BIOS modding is a must on Maxwell GPUs for absolute maximum overclocking.

From what I can see on the fron and back of the pcb it seems like its connected to some kind of componetry so traces are definetly going from the connector to somewhere. If I took out the six pin and saughtered on an eight pin, would that maybe work? Why are there even pads for another power connector?

I got this card used for around 250 dollars with the waterblock so it might have already been done. How can i check if it is?

Here is my 970 that I modded to have much higher power limit so it would overclock further and in under higher loads. You can check if it is modded or not under GPU-Z, Advanced, then on NVIDIA BIOS tab. If Default and Maximum values are less or equal to 250w, then your card is most likely not bios modded.

Yeah its stock. I can either help you mod it or can mod your bios for more power for you. Up to you. Just make sure you have enough headroom for your power supply. As I increased my system power draw more to 80w after modding my bios and it will be much more noticeable for that card.

I think I'll manage to do it from watching youtube. Do you have a video you could recommend that kinda explains the process? The PSU is no problem considering i have an 850 watt.

No, as there aren't the two extra pads for an 8-pin.
As for why there's the side-mounted one? I'd guess it's because this PCB was also used for Quadros. Quadros typically have the power connector on the side since they're designed to go in workstations or racks, where they're limited to a certain height.

Nevermind, I have installed everything, but cant find out what i should set the values to. Would you please like to help me lol?

Hi, can you upload your original BIOS (dump it using GPUZ). I'll edit and show you what I changed so that, if you want to change the settings further in the future, you can.
