Disable Windows 10 S mode

Go to solution Solved by r00tb33r,

To disable S mode go to your UEFI settings and disable Secure Boot.  This should take that Windows install out of S mode.

To choose any edition of Windows 10 during installation...

This method assumes you have created USB installation media using Microsoft's media creation utility.  Open the installation media USB volume and create a text file

[drive letter]:\sources\ei.cfg

With the following contents:

That's it.

I've got a new laptop that I need to benchmark without mucking around with the OEM Windows installation.  I imaged the SSD before the first boot so I have a virgin image of the OEM SSD as it was in the new machine.  I tried a clean installation of Windows 10 from USB media but it won't let me choose the edition during install, it just defaults to Home S.  I wanted to install and run any edition of Windows without activation to benchmark it for a day or two.  It doesn't even matter if it's Pro or not, Home will do, without the donkey (ass) mode.  I don't want to log into a Microsoft account and attach this hardware/product key to my Microsoft account to get the app from the Microsoft store.

How do I get around this without using a Microsoft account?  I just want to pick the edition in installer and install it.

If you set up Windows 10 with a LOCAL account (no Microsoft account) by not giving it a network connection during the installation it will not let you do anything in the store without signing in first or creating an account.  The reason you're not being prompted anything in the store is because you're already signed in an a Microsoft account because you made your Windows user account a Microsoft account.  Fortunately turning off secure boot for a moment is quicker and easier.

No, i never signed in to MS account or connect to the internet when setting up a new laptop.

I'll check again when another one arrive.
