Just came across this, how cool is that. 

 

Curious to see what hardware it actually is and how they managed 1024 logical cores. Also what kind of software did they use for this.

I'm pretty sure the consensus was that is was faked. The CPU usage on the left never matches the "CPU" "usage" shown in the graph.

also, no two core chip actually has 1024 threads.

Here is the video desciption, they were altering with the code of task manager in some way

They mention some details in the description:

This video was sped up 4.5314 times due to windows imprecise timer.
the frames of the big apple video were extracted from kdenlive.

The final binary was injected into task manager to alter the cpu count and then populate the 'grid' by using the extracted frames of the video.
 Its pretty slow which is why the video was sped up. 
The code is absolute garbage and can be unexpected sometimes.

It's fake in the sense that it doesn't reflect actual CPU usage but rather they hacked Task Manager to play an animation. So it is a real screen recording.

 

But I've seen people make shapes with Task Manager before. All you have to do is run Prime95 with certain cores enabled:

So they could have actually done that animation with real CPU usage if they made a special program.
