MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ventus 2X OC

mikewaals

Is this GPU Card any worth. Should I buy it? I am not a huge enthusiast of Gaming but I sometimes play street fighter, mortal kombat and may be some car racing.

Is there any issue with this card in long run?

If I buy 4k monitor, would it work with it?

I am really confused with different between ventus and gaming cards.

the ventus models are generally the refrence pcb with a higher base and boost clock.  I personally have the ventus 3x in a 3070 and i dont have any issues with it. Card never goes above 75C while playing games at 1440p max

Current Rig=  AMD Ryzen 9 5900x, Asus Crosshair Hero VIII, EVGA RTX 3070 FTW3 ultra, 32gb Corsair Vengence Pro RGB 3000hz White, EVGA 750 P2 PSU, 1TB Samsung 980 Pro, 500gb samsung 860 evo, 250GB Samsung 850 evo, 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus, 2TB seagate firecuda sshd,  LianLi PC 011 Dynamic XL ROG edition, Corsair h150i elite capelix

Ventus has a smaller heatsink, and boosts lower than a gaming card which you can just compensate by having a better flowing case or chilly ambients.

I don't know if Street Fighter or Mortal Combat are GPU intensive, but what racing games are you playing, and at what resolutions and frame rate are you targeting? Like Forza Horizon 4 is very GPU intensive, but I can run it at 1080p ultra locked to 120 FPS (or 144 FPS unlocked if I enable FreeSync and OC everything) on my 5600 XT, which is a lot less powerful then the 3060.

With 12 GB of VRAM, you could run 4k, but you FPS could be very stuttery. The 3060 isn't really designed for 4K, it just has enough VRAM for it. Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat shouldn't be a problem if I were to guess.

Lets says I use 4k for normal work  - development, videos, some photos, Linux (GUI), and play streetfighter occasionally. Then it wont be stuttery. Am I correct. I sometimes play need for speed.

Ok for you, I suggest just downgrading your cpu to the Ryzen 5800X. There's no point in having a 5900X or 5950X unless you have all the money in the world. Just downgrade to the 8 core cpu and then upgrade your graphics to a 3070. Then you can maybe play some games at 4k, but I think it would be best if you got a 1440p monitor. 1440p is already really nice, 4k is kinda just overkill too.

Like Need for Speed heat? I can't say anything about this because I haven't played the game in forever, and I used to play it on console. But if anything bottlenecks you work, it will be you RAM (for your use case, I would suggest 32GB), your SSD (I would really suggest more storage if you are working with videos), or maybe the GPU's smaller memory bus and lack of CUDA cores.

Also you can save money for the RAM or SSD by getting one less pack of case fans. The O11D run just fine with 4 or 5 fans, and your AIO comes with three already.

I mean 8GB of VRAM is pushing it for 4K, maybe not in his games, but maybe in other use cases because this PC will need to last a while, and his tastes will probably expand. At this point I would suggest getting a RX 6800 (non-XT) simply because it has more than 10GB of VRAM, and a R7 5800X if you do want to downgrade the CPU. Ofc if you can get either at MSRP, which is always the breaking point these days.

Yes @mikewaalsI think these are some ways you could upgrade your components.

Well the 3070 at 4k could work on professional use or video watching or anything else not game related. But I think if he were to be playing games, he might have to play 1440p.

You play at the resolution your monitor supports. Unless you have weak AF graphics, but still, the 3060 isn't weak.

I just think that the 3070 maybe would be too little power for 4k, but that all comes down to when he does really get it. I might be wrong.

I'd choose myself... the 8Core+3070 vs 12core+3060
By the time you'd need to replace either the 8core or 12 core, new stuff exists (trade up, sell old, offset new)
3070 is always a nice to have.. depends on games you play though... either way, both CPU's will suffice for your needs (depending how heavy the needs truly are)

3070 and 4K, just be realistic.. High settings, Not Ultra. or a Mix or MediumHighUltra that you barely notice downgrades (optimization videos exist for video games)
Whatever you get at 4K, pretty much doubles at 1440p (given no CPU/RamLatency bottleneck)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

And if he wants, he can play games that use DLSS and/or turn down the resolution of textures to save on VRAM, but if he does this he can play games like these all day on a 3060 at 4k. Again, only suggesting upgrading the GPU, turning down the CPU, if you are very much into video editing. Since that needs more GPU horsepower.

I think you mean 3060. And if you do mean that, then yes, the 3060 is too weak for 4k, but that is because he lacks CUDA cores, just not in the three games he mentioned if I were to guess. But for video editing purposes he could really uses more GPU horsepower, but if he were to upgrade to a 3070, which has 33% less VRAM than a 3060, he may not have enough VRAM for 4k. Remember this is two different possible bottlenecks we must tackle. Hence why I am suggesting a RX 6800, performance somewhere somewhere between a 3060 and 3070, but has a overabundance of VRAM meaning a VRAM amount for 4K will never be a bottleneck.

How about downgrading AMD processor to 5800x and replace GPU with MSI GeForce RTX 3070 GAMING X TRIO . is it a good choice?
