Quick monitor question. 144 or 240 Hz?

Budget (including currency): 300 usd

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: WoW, Archeage, Farcry 4->, whatever interests me.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Currently running Viewsonic 75Hz monitor at 1080p.

From what I understand RTX3060 is not a very powerful card but I would like to know if buying 240Hz would be a waste of if it would be able to utilize it. Maybe get 144Hz instead not sure. Any suggestions?

240 feels much less of a difference from 144 than 60 does. My advice is to get 144 to save some money on that end and get a better display instead of the extra hz.

240 is a waste, especially with what games you listed.

I'd look at 1440p 165Hz or an UW to be honest.

There is more to consider than just high refresh rates.

I recommend that you read this:

As the first comment says, the difference between 144 and 60 is very noticeable while the difference between 144 and 240 isn't as much. May I make a suggestion - MSI Optix g24c? 144hz, 1ms, DP, HDMI, and DVI, curved, and 24 inch? Around $200 when I bought it in mid 2018. It's truly fantastic (compared to my crappy 16 inch 60hz acer i had previously).

Unless you're playing competitive titles, 144hz is fine.

16:9 gsync 144hz/165hz at 1440p is the best choice, no ultra wide configuration hassle and pixel perfect resolution...but expensive.

1080p 144hz can be a cheap option viable only if you plan to keep that GPU for long time (4+ years)

Thanks i skimmed through it before. the problem with such in depth article is that i have no point of reference to base or real time experience in difference in said technologies so to me the whole article becomes a blur and a headache. I was looking for something very short highlights and to the point. instead of this tech is almost as good as this one but then today there just as good as another type of wording which confuses me personally and only throws another wrench to bounce around in the trunk. Thank you for the article though and I am sure some people will find it helpful.

Most likely i'll be using this gpu for some time. time between builds for me is roughtly 8 to 10 years. /and a small replacement/when hardware failure/ I have looked at 1440P displays and they are too expensive and out of my range otherwise i would have looked at them more closely. i'll have to stick closer to 1080p displays not too huge because im near sighted and i can see individual pixels very well and it drives me nuts.

probably going to go with this ASUS TUF Gaming VG259QR 25" (24.5" Viewable) Gaming Monitor, 1080P Full HD, 165Hz (Supports 144Hz), 1ms, Extreme Low Motion Blur, G-SYNC Compatible ready,

------------Checked Nvidia's website and VG259QR is not listed as GSync compatible but lists VG259QM as being compatible. difference being HDR400 and higher 185-240Hz refresh rate all other major features being pretty much the same. with slightly higher price tag--------------

Does anyone have the VG259QR monitor and could confirm that it actually works with G Sync? or should I just shell out more cash for the higher Hz in this case and HDR400?

VG259QR = 230 USD

VG259QM =320 USD
