should i upgrade my ram or no?

ok so i was gifted a free lenovo thinkpad T510 it has a dual core first gen i5 in it. anyhow its uber slow it runs windows 10 and it currently had 2x2gig sticks installed for a total of 4gb of ram. installing a sata 2.5 inch ssd isnt really an option because i need more space than an ssd can provide in terms of cost a 2tb ssd isnt that cheap. would upgrading to 8 gigs of ram which is the max fix the slow down issues? i dont think upgrading to a core i7 would be worth it either seeing as how it only supports first gen dual core i7's thoughts? if it matters i use this laptop for watching movies off the hard drive

the ram upgrade wont really affect the speediness of your laptop, but id still recommend bec ddr3 is really cheap nowdaws

I'd recommend to get a CD sata bay for a second drive on your system, depending on if you need to have cd read capabilities.

if not then buy a cheap cd bay sta adapter of ebay, and put a 20$ ssd into it. that should be the difference between night and day

but the cpu upgrade might actually give you real results, the T500 series are really durable machines.

follow up answer,

if you by any chance really think about investing 100+$ into the machine, Id rather recommend you to upgrade to a newer second hand modell, like the t530.

Just like Haraikomono said and

if u want to be bit more faster then

A Linux maybe (here, Linux mint) to make it a bit snappier.

(But u gotta find if all the software u want are present on Linux.)

Oh, either way I was just adding, from everything I know, to not miss out this option.

Spoiler alert -

mint 21 is actually really good. (Felt more stable than 19 and 20)
