10900k vs 11700k

Go to solution Solved by Mateyyy,

I would only pick the 11700K if the deep learning work you plan on doing does actually benefit from AVX-512.

Otherwise, I would much rather take a 10900K/10850K or 3900X/5800X/5900X over the i7.

Hi I am building a new computer and I am not sure which CPU to choose, 10900k or 11700k or anything else?

10900k seems to have more computing power and 11700k has PCIe 4.0...

Any input would be appreciated! thanks!

The computer for the most of the time would be used for deep learning model training, and sometimes for gaming.

The GPU for this build would be RTX3090.

To be fair, that's the 11900K review. The other 11th gen chips are generally more well regarded, but not seen as significant upgrades over 10th gen. Like if you can get either for the same price, sure go 11th gen, but otherwise stick with 10th.

I mean there are no bad products, there is only bad pricing. They discounted it by $15 after this video was published but I doubt it makes any difference. If you are in the market for an 11700k, either get a 5800x which is the around same price and just as good, or save your money and get a 10700k/10850k.

No, the 11900K is really pretty bad. I suppose cost has something to do with it, but even a 10700K outperforms it in a lot of cases.

I know the MKL is optimized for Intel CPUs, but I am not sure if AVX-512 would help.

I'll check that. Thanks!

well, if the 11900k was $300 it would be justified...

I guess I should change it to, there are no bad products, there is just really bad pricing.

It's bad when compared to the 10th series. Because it actually performs worse for the given price, especially the i9 is more expensive and performs worse than the older one. With the exception being AVX512.

In games the i5, i7, i9 all performs almost identically so it makes no sense to buy the i7, i9 so yes, it's kinda a waste of sand unless you actually can use AVX512.

Yeah, but there comes a point you're just asking why does this thing even exist. If you have to lower it to $300 to make it competitive, why not just buy something already in that range?

things exist if there is a market for them. If you lower the price of something you will get a bigger market for them 90% of the time. People will buy stuff if they think they are getting a "deal"

It's just kind of how capitalism works.

Since you'll have a GPU, there's no reason to go for a 11700k, AVX-512 will be mostly useless in this scenario.

Go for a 10900k which has more cores and will be way more useful.

Same dilemma, I chose the 10900KF. I don't regret it.
