What do you think of this build?  I do mainly gaming.  I know it's not a gaming cpu but I've seen 8c16t Ryzen cpus that only sell for like $80 less so I figure might as well go for a more beast cpu.  Will more core/thread be a better future proofing?  Will it be good for the next 8 years?  My 4690K is old and it shows.  I'm budgeting around $1,200 and I don't mind since I can't buy a gpu for the rest of the year.  At msrp prices at least or unless we experience a tremendous crypto crash.

Anyways, what would you change staying within budge.  By the way, I already have the 1070 and I'm holding onto it unless I can get a 3070 or 3080 at msrp.

Why get a 3900x when you can get a much faster (and I stock) 5800x?

I'd also get a sizable HDD instead of a 1tb secondary SSD.

Don't get a h510.thay suck. They may look cool, but they are bassically fancy ways to cook the components.

Get a better psu for a 1.2k system. 650 won't be enough for a 30 series gpu, and that one is.... Bad. I'd go for a Corsair rm750x or rm850x.

BTW if you scroll to the top of the pcpp page there will be a link, of you paste that to the forum, it will auto insert, and the list will be viewable w/o needing to zOom the image.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

-Intel CPUs are on deep sale right now..... if you're just gaming I'd recommend Intel at the moment. Also, consider a 10700K/KF for $100 cheaper if you're just gaming.

-A 5800X works too. It would be better for gaming than the 3900X.

-Nice and large CPU cooler. You can downgrade this to the Dark Rock 4 (non pro) if you aren't overclocking, should do fine.

-Not sure why we are going for two separate 16G kits, 32G is cheaper.

-Better SSD

-The H510 has pretty bad airflow... you may have to invest quite a bit in nice fans like I did for my H510 if you want a more powerful GPU in it.

-This case is $89 but comes with 3 pretty decent fans. You can turn off the RGB if you want.

-Much better PSU.

The 5800x is not going for less than $500.  In fact many scum bag scalpers are selling them for up to $600.

Also will motherboards have the bios already?  This is my first AMD build in a while so if I must use and older AMD chip to update the bios, I won't be able to do it.

I was under the impression that filling up the banks would let me use quad channel ram.  Any benefits to that?

There are benefits to that, but that feature is only enabled on HEDT platforms (Intel X299, AMD Threadripper)

I don't know what's you live, in the us you can find both 5600x and 5800xs in stock for at or near MSRP (like +50$)

For motherboards or depends. Just get one with flashback to be sure.

You can't just quad channel on a consumer Intel or and platform.

All you would get (besides it looking better) it just lower freq if the men controller can't do 4 sticks well

If you're just gaming, I would really consider the 10700K at $318 as well.

The 5800X is probably the better call though. Cheaper board, less power draw (cheaper cooler), better upgrade path.

The 10850k is a slightly faster 10900k if memory serves, and the 5600x is faster than the 10900k. I think you can draw your own conclusions.

IIRC the 5600X is slightly slower than the 10900K in most games, but close. But if he's gonna be using for many many years, I'd recommend at least 8 cores.... the 5800X is the choice here imo.
