Just heard this acoustic cover, with Rick Astley himself singing "Never gonna give you up". It sounds so beautiful, and gives the song a whole new meaning.

Also, check out this slow version of Cher's "Believe", sung by Adam Lambert, it's even more beautiful, and also gives that song a whole different meaning.

Metallica blackened!

I saw a post about piano music, so if you're not in the mood for thrash metal, then there are bluegrass covers for many metallica songs.  There are also orchestra covers of AC/DC as well.

I have been going through my music library, and for songs of much lower file quality, I've started running them through Audacity.  Change from waveform to spectrum view, and you'll see how much of the high frequency clips way off the charts.  Also, it's usually so stupidly loud, that if you were to max out the volume, not only will you have loud audible permanent ringing hearing damage, but you'd also need to get another set of speakers.

So, I've started de-amplifying music files (even .flac files) by as much as -36 dB and I think it sounds a lot better.  I also like to play songs at a lower speed, even just a little bit for a different tempo.  I actually started using audacity just for the speed change, then started de-amplifying songs, and I think you all will agree, it sounds more relaxing to listen to, even with full speaker output.  This is because, with the new amplitude reduction, it is safe to use full volume, and not blow out your hearing nor your speakers.  I think it's called the loudness wars.

Something about 0 dB (max volume without clipping) but what range is at 0dB and which frequencies will be over amplified, such as high pitched cymbols or guitars etc.  I think making the songs so loud reduces the quality of the recording.

Windows 11 will just force business to "recycle" "obscolete" hardware.  Microsoft definitely isn't bothered by this at all, and seems to want hardware produced just a few years ago to be considered obsolete.  They have also not shown any interest nor has any other company in a similar financial position, to help increase tech recycling whatsoever.  Windows 12 might be cloud-based and be a monthly or yearly fee.

F-droid is a place to install open-source software for android, Antennapod, RethinkDNS, Fennec which is Firefox with about:config, lots of performance and other changes available, mozilla KB has a huge database of what most of the settings do.  Most software in the repository only requires Android 5 and 6!

I recommend firewall apps (blocks apps) and dns filters (redirect all dns requests on android, to your choice of dns, even if overridden).  RethinkDNS is my pick and I set it to use pi-hole, installed inside Ubuntu/Debian, which is inside Virtualbox, until I go to a website, nothing at all connects to any other server.  I also use NextDNS.io to do the same when away from home wi-fi or even cellular!  I can even tether from cellular to any device sharing via wi-fi, and block anything with dns set to NextDNS, regardless if the device allows changing dns.  This style of network filtration is being overridden by software updates on some devices, forcing a backup dns provuder, such as google dns, when built in dns requests are not connecting.  Without a complete firewall setup, dns redirection itself is no longer always effective.

I am curious why most posts here use youtube links.  I get it, it's free and a gigantic library of music and live performances are available, but on my tablet that can't at all handle the steam widgets on the thread about games people play, even when blocking the youtube scripts, it says "unable to connect" but even that is too heavy and it causes background programs to close.  Even with a simple text-based page open, I can't also have a podcast or song playing in the background, it just stops when a webpage finishes loading, so I can't multi-task on this device.

Only posting the youtube link with no other text also prevents me from having any idea of what the songs are, and the page would not be usable.  So if you all would at least post in text the artist and song it would be great.

What would be really nice is just stop posting all youtube links entirely and this page would load so much faster and use less memory.  Even the spotify stuff inline is heavy for this hardware.  It could also be lighter with only the link and not the embedded javascript and youtube content, so if anyone is interested the link is there while still keeping the thread much quicker to load.

not everyone has spotify.  not everyone has deezer.  not everyone has apple music.  we've all got youtube and the point of this thread is to share music.  I know it must suck on an underpowered tablet but that what this thread is for showing people the music we enjoy.  I'm sorry
