WD Black 1TB Review

Anthony10

I am making this review because I personally highly do not recommend buying one of these, I have mine mounted with rubber grommets (or whatever you call 'em) and it is the loudest component in my build, I can easily pick it out of my other fans. If you are not silence oriented and you don't care, then this is a pretty good performing drive, here is a crystaldiskmark test with it.

NOTE: There are HDD silencing kits that I believe would help a lot with this.

Hard drives I can recommend instead of it:

WD Red, Seagate Barracuda

Haha yeah I can hear mine too but since I've got my audio quite loud most of the times it doesn't bother me the slighest

I hate to say this bro :(, but I completely disagree with you, I have 6 2TB black drives in my main rig and they are pretty much silent. I have every fan in my rig at 7V, they are dead silent.

I hate my WD Blue. Sounds like my dad's 10 or so year old Barracuda 7200.7's (or 10's, forgot which).

I never had any issue with my WDC Black HDD so you probably received a defective unit.

Using a 1TB Black for games that don't benefit from my dedicated games SSD in terms of loading times or games that I don't play frequently. It's a nice drive, but quiet is something else.

My WD Black does make quite a bit of noise, yes, but it's not unbearable. It does get quite loud when it's reading or writing large amounts of data though.

Honestly WD just fails with 7200 rpm drives, even with a single 1TB platter such as the WD10EZEX. Theyre twice as louder than a WD10EZRX (green drive) and theyre not performing any better.

Id suggest comparing the benchmark & acoustic results through hardware.info. I returned the WD10EZEX the first day was noisy as fuck for a WD10EZRX that was very quiet in the beginning and now it's like a lawn mower. I'm done with hard drives tbh, getting ssd's as storage instead.

I dunno, I've got a WD Caviar Black 1TB in my main rig as general storage and another on in my brother's PC as the main OS drive, and I don't really notice them in terms of operating noise...

The particular models I have are the WD1002FAEX, though. I don't know how all the different versions / models compare.
