Please help, I am an impatient moron. I am a noob to the PC world and just got a PC put together. I did not have a surge protector and could not wait to plug in my PC so I grabbed one of the normal orange extension cords you see in ever tool shed and plugged my PC in to it and turned the switch to “-“ and the RGB that’s on the motherboard came on so I went ahead and pressed the power button on my case figuring all is good to go. But immediately after pressing the power button I heard a pop and seen a spark/flash come from the rear of the case I immediately took the PSU cord out and proceeded to panic. I was so distraught and upset I left it alone and went to bed. Keep in mind I am super noob and realized the 8 pin only had 6 pins in so I plugged in the 2other pins and tried again and nothing happened.

Notes: the RGB on the motherboard still light up when the PSU switch is on

Do you smell something burning on the psu? If you smell something burning that might be your PSU capacitor is exploded. Try to swap the PSU and see if that work.

No burnt smell, I am currently waiting on a friend to get back to me about using their pc to attempt troubleshooting.

If you bought a decent PSU, it may have protected your parts.  That's one of it's functions if it's from a good brand.  If you have another PSU, take out the video card, plug it into a surge protector, and see if it powers on.  If it does, your main components might be safe, and you may have to just replace the PSU.

Yes, I share it with friends, and bought this at MSRP.  I was a listmaster for several days in NY.
