Feedback loops if they become loud enough could theoretically destroy a microphone element if it exceeds the rated SPL of the mic but you would likely go deaf before that happened.

so it can only damage if it goes above the spl. the main thing i was worried about was the mic hearing itself though my open backs when monitoring the mic

Ribbons can generally take a massive amount of SPL, just not the blasts of air associated with things like blowing on them, wind or a bass drum. I use ribbons for brass all the time for this reason.
