Currently finishing up my PC build, and having trouble distinguishing a clear winner between these CPUs:

-R5 3600

-R7 3800X

-R7 3700X

Which one is the best bang for buck? I currently own a 3600, and I've been wondering if I should switch over to a 3700 or 3800X, but I keep finding conflicting reviews.

If you have a 3600, there is 0 zero reason to get a 3700 or 3800 unless you're using applications that would benefit from more cores and threads.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Mostly using it for gaming and 4k video editing, will that make a difference?

For gaming no not really at all. For video editing possibly.

Those must be selling for higher than MSRP right now anyways right?

More seriously, the 3600 should be perfectly fine, especially since you already have access to one. Later down the line, if you notice your CPU usage is maxing out (per core, or overall), and performance is not where you want it to be, then an upgrade would be advisable, when parts have hopefully dropped in price.

I dunno that's cheaper than what I paid for my 3600 iirc...

If you export your videos using Nvidia hardware encoding, there's probably even a lesser chance of benefitting from an upgrade like that. What you have is good enough for both gaming as well as 4k video editing.

Save your money for 5600x, 3700-3800 won't give you any noticeable difference.

i've used 1600-2600 as an editing machine, no problem as some of the load is handled by the GPU too.
