FileZilla Router error

I started to configure filezilla a month ago, and I always encounter this error, "You appear to be behind a NAT router. Please configure the passive mode settings and forward a range of ports in your router." Any tips why?

Are you trying to have the ftp server publically accessable?

 

Did you enable port forwarding?

That message is not an error, it's a sort of notification.

 

Filezilla determines that your computer is in a local network behind a router (or a modem from your ISP that acts as a router as well) and the PC has a local IP. 

 

The FTP server will work just fine within the local network, other computers can connect to it and transfer files,  but if you want people from the internet to connect to your ftp server and transfer files, then the router must be configured to "make the translation" between the Internet IP you receive from your ISP and the local IP your computer receives from the router/modem your ISP gave you. 

 

If you want people from Internet to be able to connect to your ftp server, you need to enable port forwarding in your router's settings and configure a range of ports for your computer's local IP address to be "forwarded".  Some routers even have a specific page/section for FTP servers, separate from other "forwarding" or  "servers setup" sections.
