Hello,

I bought some new components for my computer and I really don't like the audio software that came with my mobo (Asus m5a97 evo r2.0), when I connect something in a jack it doesnt ask me what it is (rear, front ..) and I need that because I would like multiple front speaker outputs. On my older mobo I had this option. How can I get this feature back?

Also tried to install some other drivers, but they are the same as the official for the mobo http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/realtek_hd_audio_2_72_audio_driver_download.html

The current software:

The software I had before:

Thank you!

Have you got the right header plugged in? it should be the HD header from the case to the HD header on the mobo.  Sometimes people plug in the ac97 header and get issues like what you are describing.

Yeah, I have the HD one plugged in, i'm am just telling that when I plug something in the front panel it asks me what it is (that is what I want), but when I plug something on the back (direct to motherboard) it does not ask me what it is (can't choose what it is, rear, center, front, mic...) .

in that situation you don't get to choose whether it is front, rear, centre, sub etc, for the that realtek chip only the front can be re-tasked, however you should be able to choose if it is speakers (sets up the out for line level) or headphones (applies gain to the signal to drive headphones).

I don't know if this is exactly what you are looking for, but if you right click one of the color inputs on the bottom, you will get an option to reassign that input.

Try double-clicking those color port icons in the bottom (back panel and front panel). THis should open a window where you can re-assign what's plugged in the port and have a check box to enable prompting when plugging in something.

That should work but I have read that the chip he has (887) does not support re-tasking on the rear ports, only the front.

If I double click or right click there are no options for re-tasking the inputs, only on the green one I can choose front spk or headphones. And the chip is alc892 not 887, before on older computer I had 888 and I could re-task.

Sounds about right.  You have a physical output on the rear for every channel except headphones, so the only re-tasking you can do is to swap between line level (front speaker) and headphone out.
