NH-D15, second fan doesn't fit.

OldTweaker

Just upgraded to a Ryzen 9 3900XT with a NH-D15. Unfortunately the second fan doesn't fit in combo with my memory.  (Asus TUF B450-PLUS GAMING mainboard).

I can add some fans to the top of the case, but it seems to me the one fan is more than sufficient and already have an exaust at the back of the case. I don't overclock. Any tips if the second fan is really required?

So you have high profile (taller memory) sticks? What exactly do you have?

Else if it doesn't fit, get the salami lid.

Or if you have space anywhere else, but yes this is a problem with big air coolers if you didn't look into before buying?

Guess I should have checked 🙂, normal height memory. Just too close to the fan

so a thinner fan would work? think one can buy one. but maybe not what you wanted.

If the case has enough clearance, you can mount the fan higher on the heatsink. Otherwise, you can just use one fan.

The fan can be repurposed elsewhere in the system.

I'm sure you're aware of this, but just in case: the fan doesn't have to be completely aligned with the fins.  I had to offset my fans about half an inch so I would have clearance with my own RAM.  The only concern at that point is whether your case side panel will close.  Pic enclosed:

Thanks, for the help. I know it doesn’t have to align, but then it still doesn’t fit in the case. For now I’ll keep it as a spare. The temps still look good 🙂

So you have option to place fan to other side of the cooler, as pulling instead of pushing. Shouldn't matter for performance that much. Also, the fan can rest on top of the RAM just fine. I can understand if you have RGB RAM and you want to show it off that its not preferred. But fan shroud is plastic, RAM heatsink is aluminum.

Actually there's a plastic cover over the back plate section which is in the way for that. I'm not into RGB 🙂 . But even with the fan resting on the RAM there really is not enough space. The temps are fine though, max measured of 68 C when putting stress on all cores.

The other fan in combination with the case fans seem to do a good job.

Dominators aren't normal height RAM. Normal height is 35mm. Dominators are 55mm. This is why the confusion.
